No doubt that Spring is here in Netherlands eventhough the temperature keeps going up and down. Thanks to the weather forecast which we definitely make us of it. So, we went to a known place but somehow we missed something. What is it then? Well, let’s read The Hidden Gem of Amsterdam Forest That You Should Know now.
Living in a small country gives a huge benefit because the travel distance is short. It took around 30 minutes to reach the Amsterdam Forest. Mind you, it was Sunday and nice weather so you probably expect that everyone says “let’s go out now!” 😆 . Indeed, as expected there was a bit of traffic jam on the road and also the place itself is crowded with visitors.
The History of The Hidden Gem
Every time when Spring has arrived, there will be a festival in the Amsterdam Forest. No, it was not a loud music by people instead it was filled with the nature sounds. The festival is called Cherry Blossom Festival where there is a special area reserved for this purpose.
Since the year of 2000 the festival is held annually, in order to strengthen the bond between The Netherlands and Japan. A stunning amount of 400 cherry blossom trees were given by the Japan Women Club. 200 of those trees carry Dutch names, the other half carry Japanese names. Inside the park you can find a memorial stone as well. This plate is to honor the victims of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, which took place on 11 March 2011.
The Cherry Blossom Festival
The Festival itself is to celebrate the beginning of spring, and what better way than to do so under the cherry blossom trees is that you can also enjoy a picnic. Taste a bit of the Japanese culture as there are food stalls with sushi and other exotic foods and beverages. Simply step back, lay down and relax.
We definitely recommend for all of you to visit this place. Remember to respect the nature by keeping the place clean so that other visitors can enjoy this place too 🙂 .
